BACOLOD CITY – A 61-year-old teacher died while her 13-year-old granddaughter was wounded after they were stabbed by an unidentified man inside their house in Barangay Poblacion, Cauayan, Negros Occidental on Monday, Feb. 13.
The fatality was identified as Nancy Oliverio.
Lt. Raffy Billones, deputy chief of the Cauayan Municipal Police Station, said Oliverio was sleeping with her granddaughter when she was awakened by a noise.
The victim saw a knife-wielding man outside their room but she failed to call for help as the suspect stabbed them.
Oliverio was declared dead on arrival in a hospital while her granddaughter was referred to a hospital in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.
Billones said they already have a person of interest based on the statement of a witness.
Police are looking at robbery as a possible motive though the victims’ family said there were no missing items in the house.
Investigation is ongoing.
