Parañaque City Mayor Eric Olivarez announced that persons with disability (PWDs) will enjoy free parking in all commercial establishments in the city.
Olivarez made the announcement on Tuesday, Feb. 15, after the City Council approved an ordinance giving exemptions to PWDs in paying parking fees and other charges in all commercial establishments.
He said PWDs and their drivers only need to show their PWD identification card issued by the city’s Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) under Dr. Sabas De Guzman.
The mayor said establishments that will violate the provisions of the ordinance will be given a warning for the first offense and will be asked to pay a fine ranging from P1,000 to P2,000 for the subsequent offenses.
Olivarez urged the PWDs to report or file a written complaint with the PDAO or the Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO) headed by Atty. Melanie Soriano –Malaya once they encounter any violation of the ordinance.
He said giving PWDs the privilege of exempting them from paying parking fees is part of the move of the city government in making the city PWD-friendly.
The mayor added that the city government will continue to provide wheelchairs and crutches to all PWDs.
