DSWD warns vs unscrupulous individuals offering money to seniors, retirees
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) advised the public to be vigilant and not to entertain text messages about "unclaimed" relief allowances.
DSWD issued the statement on Wednesday, Feb. 15, following a report by a concerned citizen that there are circulating text messages regarding the unclaimed relief allowance for senior citizens and retired business owners.
It clarified that DSWD has not issued any message regarding the unclaimed allowance, adding that no such relief allowance is being given.
However, DSWD said its financial assistance for individuals in crisis, including senior citizens, is provided through its Crisis Intervention Unit (CIU) at the central office and all field offices nationwide.
CIU clients undergo an assessment to qualify for assistance.
DSWD reminded the public to avoid contacting unknown individuals and providing their personal information via text message, email, or phone call.
For concerns relative to the department’s programs for the older persons, clients may inquire through DSWD VOIP number 8931-8101 local 10125/10157 or via email at [email protected].
Clients can also inquire directly with authorized personnel at the social welfare office of the city or municipality in their respective local government units to ensure legitimate information.
Likewise, DSWD advised its clients to consult, inquire, and send concerns only on its official Facebook page regarding various government services and programs.
