Renewal of vehicle registration can now be done online, LTO says

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) launched on Tuesday, Feb 14, a program that would make the renewal of vehicle registration done online.

LTO chief Jose Arturo “Jay Art” Tugade said the online registration of vehicles could now be done via online through the the Land Transportation Management System (LTMS) portal, a process that may take only five to 10 minutes to complete.

"Through this scheme, private individuals, companies or organizations can now use the LTMS portal to renew the registration of their vehicles without the need to go to any of the agency’s district offices," said Tugade.

But he was quick to clarify that the online renewal of vehicle registration will only apply to plain renewal transactions, and the private vehicle owner must have a registered LTMS portal account and the last renewal transaction was completed using LTMS.

He explained that before conducting the online renewal, the owner should secure or acquire a Certificate of Coverage (COC) or insurance of their choice, and that the vehicle must be brought to the Private Motor Vehicle Inspection Center (PMVIC) and checked for road worthiness.

"Both the validated insurance and the MV inspection report (MVIR) will be electronically sent to the LTMS. Once all the requirements are met, the MV owner can now log in to his or her LTMS Portal account and conduct the renewal process, including online payment," said Tugade.

"With the MV registration online renewal, vehicle owners can do it in a month’s time, at their own pace, and in the comfort of their homes or during their office break," he added.

Tugade said the program is part of the government's goal of making government transactions easier.

In the case of vehicle registration concerning LTO, he said there is no need for vehicle owners to spend a whole day to renew the registration of their vehicles.
