Scattered rains are expected in the Visayas and Mindanao because of the trough or extension of a low pressure area (LPA) outside the country’s area of responsibility, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday, Feb. 14.
PAGASA said the LPA still has a low chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within 24 to 48 hours, but it may bring rains over the Visayas and Mindanao areas in the next few hours.
In its 11 a.m. weather advisory, PAGASA said moderate to heavy rains may prevail over the Zamboanga Peninsula, Soccsksargen, and Davao Region, while light to occasional heavy rains may affect the Visayas and the rest of Mindanao.
“Under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides are possible, especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps and in areas with significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA warned.
It advised the public and concerned disaster risk reduction and management offices to take all necessary precautionary measures.
Meanwhile, partly cloudy to cloudy weather with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms may affect Palawan.
PAGASA said the rest of Luzon will have partly cloudy to cloudy weather with light rains due to the northeast monsoon or “amihan.”
