Parañaque LGU suspends number coding, implements road closure for 25th cityhood anniversary

The Parañaque City government announced the suspension of the number coding scheme except for trucks to give way to the celebration of the 25th cityhood anniversary today, Feb. 13.

Mayor Eric Olivarez said road closure will also be implemented along San Antonio Avenue from 10:00 a.m. onwards and advised motorists to take alternative route in going to their destination.

Olivarez also reminded motorists that road closures will also be implemented in the areas where the “Grand Sunduan” parade will be held in Barangay La Huerta at 2:00 p.m.

He said the Sunduan parade will start at St. Andrew’s Cathedral in Barangay La Huerta passing M.H. del Pilar and will go around the area before going back to the church.

The mayor said the road closure will cover the stretch of Quirino Avenue from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Olivarez said the “Sunduan” festival is a tradition in the city that depicts the act of a man fetching the object of his affection from the woman’s home to bring her to church or town plaza.

The romantic Sunduan tradition was recorded during the Spanish period in 1876 in Barangay La Huerta and the practice later spread to nearby communities.

The tradition was kept alive in which men dressed in barong escort the community’s loveliest ladies dressed in elegant gowns in a colorful parade.

The mayor advised motorists to avoid the areas where the “Grand Sunduan” will be held as heavy traffic is expected.
