Man killed, wife, son survive ambush in Maguindanao del Norte

COTABATO CITY (PNA) – An electrical technician was killed while his wife and son were wounded after gunmen ambushed them in Datu Odin Sinsuat (DOS) town, Maguindanao del Norte province, on Sunday evening, Feb. 12.

Major Regie Albellera, DOS police chief, identified the fatality as Haron Maulana, a resident of DOS.

Injured and currently undergoing treatment in the hospital are his wife Joy Maulana and their 16-year-old child.

Albellera said the victims were onboard a Toyota Tamaraw FX vehicle driven by Haron when they were waylaid by gunmen on the highway in Barangay Taviran at around 7 p.m.

“They (victims) were from Barangay Poblacion Dalican and heading for Barangay Awang when the ambush occurred,” Albellera said.

Quoting witnesses near the ambush site, Albellera said gun bursts from automatic rifles were heard at the time of the incident.

Police found empty shells for M-16 and M-14 rifles at the ambush site.

Investigators have yet to determine the motive behind the attack.
