BUTUAN CITY – A magnitude-4.3 earthquake rocked Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte province on Monday afternoon, Feb. 13, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The earthquake occurred at 3:57 p.m. and its epicenter was plotted 78 kilometers northeast of the Pacific Ocean facing town of General Luna in Siargao Island and had a depth of only 15 kilometers.
The tremor was tectonic in origin and no aftershocks are expected.
The Surigao del Norte Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) reported no damage or injury from the earthquake.
But Mayor Sol F. Matugas mobilized the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council to check residents, particularly those residing in coastal areas in General Luna.
