1 dead, 3 hurt in Makati City grenade blast

A man was killed while three of his friends were left injured following a grenade explosion in Barangay Pembo, Makati City on Feb. 11.

The police identified the victim as John Al Javier, 35 years old.

According to Makati City Police Chief Col. Edward Cutiyog, Javier and three of his friends were having a drinking session in the latter's house when he suddenly grabbed a grenade and hid it in his body while sharing his grievances and disgust about his wife.

One of Javier's drinking buddies and a witness to the incident told the police that he was invited by the victim to allegedly commit suicide using the grenade, prompting the witness to leave the drinking session.

Javier then allegedly dropped the grenade causing it to explode.

Javier and his friends were brought to Ospital ng Makati (OsMak) where the former was declared dead on arrival. One of the victims is in critical condition while the other two are now in stable condition.

Officers of the Makati City Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and forensic personnel are still investigating the type of grenade Javier used in the incident including how he acquired it.
