The United States Marshals Service will train Bureau of Immigration (BI) personnel on law enforcement, self-protection and arrest procedures.
In a statement, BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco said agents of their wardens facility (BIWF) and fugitive search unit (FSU) are scheduled to attend a control tactics familiarization course.
"This capacity-building training is very timely, as it is in line with our priority area of improving the skills of our personnel, as well as upgrading security in our facility," said Tansingco.
Earlier, Tansingco implemented an office-wide revamp of the BIWF earlier this month that affected 36 employees following the seizure of cellphones and other electronic gadgets that enabled Japanese detainees to contact their cohorts in Japan to continue their criminal activities.
"The reforms that we are implementing does not end in the mere changing of people, but includes skills training and capacity-building, as well as infrastructural and technological upgrades," the BI chief said.
The trainings will start before the end of the month and involve at least 14 immigration officers.
