The trough or extension of a low pressure area (LPA) spotted in the central Pacific Ocean may bring cloudy weather with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Caraga and Davao Oriental in the next 24 hours, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday, Feb. 12.

PAGASA weather specialist Benison Estareja said the LPA was last spotted 1,710 kilometers east-southeast of Mindanao.

Estareja said the LPA has a low chance of becoming a tropical cyclone in the next two days, but it will bring rains over some parts of Eastern Mindanao this Sunday.

PAGASA warned against possible flash floods or landslides due to light to occasional heavy rains.

Meanwhile, Palawan, Visayas, and the rest of Mindanao may experience partly cloudy to cloudy weather with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.

The public is also advised to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Estareja said the rest of the country will continue to experience cold weather due to the northeast monsoon or “amihan.”

The amihan may bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with light rains.
