Cop nabbed in Laguna drug sting


CALAMBA City, Laguna – A 40-year-old police officer tagged as a high-value individual and two of his cohorts listed as street-level individuals were arrested in a buy-bust operation here before dawn on Saturday, Feb. 11.

The police here identified the suspects as Staff Sgt. Benhur de Jesa Verdera, 40, chief of the warrant section of the Liliw, Laguna Municipal Police Station; Kevin John Ballos, 30, and Alejandro Rodriguez Mane, alias ‘’Haji,’’ 42, all residents of this city.

Suspects were arrested by joint police operatives in Purok 9, Barangay 1 after they sold suspected shabu to a poseur-buyer.

They yielded six grams of shabu valued at P40,800. Confiscated from Verdera were his government-issued firearm and a Philippine National Police (PNP) identification card.

Suspects face drug-related charges, officer-on-case Corporal Raymark Basco said.

Meanwhile, three suspected drug pushers were nabbed in a buy-bust operation in Tiaong, Quezon on Sunday, Feb. 12, days after three barangays in the municipality were declared drug-cleared.

Local police identified the suspects as Tiaong residents Henry de los Reyes, Sharlyn Anglo, and Orlando Ramilo.

Seized from the suspects were suspected shabu valued at P176,000 a gun.
