PAGASA: Fair weather over most of PH on Saturday; potential LPA spotted off Mindanao

Apart from localized thunderstorms and light rains, most of the country will continue to experience fair weather conditions, said the Philippine, Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Saturday morning, Feb. 11.

PAGASA Weather Specialist Benison Estareja said the northeast monsoon, also called “amihan,” is bringing cold winds and light rains in most parts of Luzon.

“The northeast monsoon continues to affect most of Luzon. It cold or low temperatures, light rains,” said Estareja in Filipino. This indicates that partly cloudy skies with light rains will also prevail in Metro Manila.

Residents of Visayas and Mindanao may also expect fair weather conditions, but Estareja said that chances of localized thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening are not ruled out.

Potential LPA

No weather disturbance is expected to develop or affect the Philippines in the next 24 hours. The state weather bureau, however, disclosed that a potential low pressure area (LPA) was spotted southeast of Mindanao.

“As seen in our satellite animation, there is a cloud cluster here and it could potentially develop into an LPA,” said Estareja.

PAGASA is also not ruling out the possibility of it entering the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) next week, adding that it could trigger rains in the eastern section of Mindanao “as early as ,” and in some parts of Visayas and Mindanao beginning next week.
