Magnitude 6.0 earthquake hits waters off Davao Occidental
State seismologists on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 11, said an earthquake with a magnitude measuring 6.0 jolted waters off Davao Occidental.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the seismic event occurred at around 4:55 p.m. on Saturday. It was recorded with a depth of 83 kilometers and was tectonic in origin. The quake’s epicenter was identified 234 km southeast of Balut Island in the municipality of Sarangani, Davao Occidental.
Based on the latest bulletin issued by Phivolcs, Instrumental Intensity I was recorded in T’Boli and Koronadal, South Cotabato as well as Kiamba and Gian, Sarangani.
“This is an aftershock of the 7.0 offshore Davao Occidental Jan. 18, 2023,” it said.
This earthquake, according to Phivolcs, is not expected to cause damage or trigger aftershocks.
