Cop, woman killed in Lucena road crash

LUCENA CITY, Quezon – A policeman and a woman died while a tricycle driver was injured in a collision involving four vehicles in Barangay Kanlurang Mayao in this city on Friday afternoon, Feb. 10.

Police identified the fatalities as Staff Sgt. Rodante Madurog, assigned to the Lucena police motorcycle unit, and Amelita Alcala, a resident of Barangay Talipan, Pagbilao, Quezon.

Madurog was escorting a mobile patrol vehicle driven by Staff Sgt. Dennis Merca of the Lucena police with a Person Deprive of Liberty (PDL) on board to Pagbilao, Quezon.

A tricycle driven by Romeo Reporsado of Barangay Talipan in Pagbilao overtook another vehicle and collided head-on with Madurog’s big bike.

Due to the impact, Reporsado and his passenger, Alcala, were thrown out and ran over by the patrol car and the tricycle turned around and struck a car driven by Rodeson Esteban.

Reporsado sustained injuries while Alcala died on the spot. Madurog was taken to the hospital where he died.

Merca and Esteban were unscathed.
