San Juanico Bridge Aesthetic Lighting suspended due to electrical problems

TACLOBAN CITY -- The Samar Provincial Information Office has announced that the unexpected electrical breakdown at the San Juanico Bridge has affected the scheduled aesthetic lights show.

The information office added that the incessant rainfall caused by the adverse weather prevented their maintenance team from doing immediate repairs on Thursday, Feb. 9.

"To avoid further damage to this kind of unforeseeable circumstance, we are momentarily turning the light show off until further notice," The provincial information office said.

The office assured that its operations will resume once the necessary repairs are completed.

Inaugurated by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., on October 19, 2022, the San Juanico Bridge Aesthetic Lighting and Sound is a project of the Samar local government funded through an P80-million outlay from the Tourism Infrastructure Enterprise Zone Authority in 2018.

The project was supposed to be completed in 2019. However, it was suspended for several months due to the rehabilitation of the bridge.

In December 2020, a dry-run was made but the contractor noticed a problem with the electricity supply from the substation.
