Romualdez bill sets up PH for agri-industrial development; here's how
Ranking House members led by Speaker Martin Romualdez are batting for the creation, operation, administration, and coordination of so-called Special Agricultural Growth Zones (SAGZ) in the Philippines.

For this purpose, Speaker Romualdez; House Committee on Accounts Chairperson, Tingog Party-list Rep. Yedda Marie Romualdez; and Deputy Majority Leader, Tingog Party-list Rep. Jude Acidre jointly authored and filed House Bill (HB) No. 7077.
The authors believe that the SAGZ will help the Philippines achieve agri-industrial development.
“Agriculture is always an issue of scale, economies of scale. We need to start looking at the sector holistically and as an economy," Acidre said.
Tingog Party-list said the measure will establish the legal framework and mechanism for the administration and management of SAGZ, while assisting in the preservation of natural resources and biodiversity.
The creation of SAGZ will create a flow of both foreign and local investors, which, in turn, will generate employment opportunities, as well as establish linkages among industries and around agricultural growth zones.
Reps. Romualdez and Acidre clarified, however, that HB No.7077 is not a panacea to the persisting problems in the agricultural sector.
Rather, it is the primary step toward the right direction that is beneficial to our farmers and the agricultural industry as a whole, the solons said.
The measure is seen to establish financial and industrial cooperation between the Philippines and industrialized countries through technology-intensive industries. It will modernize the country’s agricultural sector and make sustainable agriculture technology accessible, the authors said
The bill is currently pending before the House Committee on Government Enterprises and privatization.
