A police patrol vehicle carrying two cops and two arrested drug suspects overturned after it hit a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) on Malaria Road in Barangay 185, Caloocan City on Friday morning, Feb. 10.
Maj. Segundino Bulan Jr., Caloocan City Police Station (CCPS) Tala Substation (SS 14) commander, told Manila Bulletin that the incident happened at around 6:30 a.m.
Bulan said the vehicle passed through Malaria Road coming from a hospital in Caloocan City South, where the two suspects underwent physical/medical examinations following their arrest.
He added that the police officer driving the patrol car allegedly lost control of the steering wheel before hitting a grey Toyota Innova MPV. The police car overturned upon impact.
The police officers and the arrested suspects were safe but they were still brought to a hospital to ensure that they did not sustain serious injuries, the SS 14 commander said.
The SS14 said the two suspects, Joel Espayos, 42, and Edmon Montalla , 29, both of Caloocan City, were arrested by the cops after they yielded P6,800 worth of “shabu” in an anti-illegal drug operation on Gumamela St. in Brgy. 185 at around 11:50 p.m. on Thursday.
The suspects will face charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, police said.
