In a nationwide survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations (SWS), it found that 30 percent of adult Filipinos have experienced unrequited or unreciprocated love.

SWS asked 1,200 respondents, “Kayo po ba ay nakaranas na ng unrequited love o pagmamahal na hindi nasuklian? (Have you ever experienced unrequited love or love that was not reciprocated?)” The survey was conducted from Dec. 10 to 14, 2022.

The respondents were further asked: “Naranasan na ba ninyong umamin ng pag-ibig para sa isang kaibigan? (Have you ever confessed your love for a friend?)”

About 33 percent of Filipinos said they have confessed their love for a friend.

SWS pointed out that confession of love is higher among men at 40 percent than among women at 25 percent.

Among those who confessed love for a friend, SWS found that 50 percent experienced unrequited love.

Overall, 57 percent of Filipinos are “very happy” with their love life, 25 percent said they “could be happier,” and 17 percent said they have “no love life.”
