National alliance of Filipino women, Gabriela, will lead the conduct of One Billion Rising campaign: Rise for Freedom on Saturday, Feb. 11 in line with its oath to eradicate all forms of gender-based violence.
One Billion Rising, a global action to end violence against all identities subjected to gender-based violence, will be marking its 10th anniversary on Saturday. Through this, Gabriela will voice out its concerns on pressing national issues such as violence, exploitation, and injustice.
“We rise for freedom against violence — a Philippines and a world free from hatred, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, harassment, rape, and all forms of violence against women, girls, and the LGBTQIA+ community,” said Gabriela in a statement.
“We rise for freedom from the old culture and the birth of the new — a culture not of injustice and oppression, but a culture in the Philippines where hope, love, care, compassion, and equality in all forms triumphs,” it furthered.

What should one expect?
Apart from the mass global action in opposition to violence, the campaign will feature grand mob dances and performances from various artists among others. OBR songs will also be released during the event, aiming to highlight women’s “collective action” against violations of people’s rights.
Gabriela said they are expecting to lead “thousands of attendees and participants.” The movement will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Liwasang Aurora, Quezon City Memorial Circle.
