Woman arrested for impersonating mayor in Samar

TACLOBAN CITY – A woman from Calbayog City, Samar was arrested on Tuesday, Jan. 31, for impersonating Gandara, Samar Mayor Warren Aguilar to scam money from individuals.

The suspect was identified as Nicole Jann Babagay from Barangay San Policarpo.

Reports disclosed that Babagay created a fake Facebook account and pretended to be Aguilar to solicit money from various individuals, including the mayor's relatives, totaling over P1 million since November last year.

The mayor and authorities investigated the matter and identified the suspect’s identity and location. Babagay was arrested by Gandara police while treating her friends to drinks on her birth anniversary in Calbayog.

Aguilar urged other victims to come out and file cases against the suspect.

She was arrested through a warrant of arrest for violation of the Cybercrime Prevention Act. Babagay has been charged with swindling and estafa in the past years.
