DA distributes certified seeds to Mimaropa farmers


CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – The Department of Agriculture Region 4-B (Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan area) distributed 2,850 bags of certified seeds worth P4,332,000 to farmers in six towns and a city in this province affected by the massive flooding from incessant rains since December last year.

Engr. Maria Christine C. Inting, DA Mimaropa officer-in-charge regional executive director, said the town of Baco received 473 bags, Naujan, 1,059; Pola, 200; Pinamalayan, 150; Bansud, 197; Victoria, 306; and Calapan City, 465.

Inting said the local chief executives requested her office to help the farmers to start over again after their farmlands were submerged in flood.

She encouraged farmer-beneficiaries to have their farms insured with the Philippine Crop Insurance Corp., a government agency.

The DA Mimaropa said 9,556.24 hectares of farmlands were damaged by flood with Naujan having the largest at 3,114.29 hectares.

Farmers Danilo Geneta of Barangay San Juan, Victoria; Nemesio Evangelista of Barcenaga, Naujan, and Dionisia Bas of Mabini, Victoria thanked the DA for their speedy intervention.
