Couple buried alive by sacks of fertilizer from overturned truck in Nueva Vizcaya

CAMP Saturnino Dumlao, Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya – A couple died after bags of fertilizer from a trailer truck buried them alive in Purok 2, Bone South, Aritao, this province, on Tuesday, Jan. 31.
Police said driver Jojo Odones, 47, of Cabatuan, Isabela, lost control of the 18-wheel truck while negotiating a curved part of the road and struck a canteen.
The truck turned to its side and sacks of fertilizer fell on victims Frederick, 54, and Gina del Mundo, 55, residents of Bone South who were just standing in front of the establishment, killing them on the spot.
A bystander in the area, Reginald Macaslam, 38, also a resident of Barangay Bone South, was injured after sacks of fertilizer hit him. Rescuers rushed Macaslam and Odones to the hospital.
The truck also rammed a parked motorcycle and pickup truck in front of the canteen.
Odones faces a case of reckless imprudence resulting in double homicide and serious physical injuries and damage to properties.
