Rain or Shine continued to breathe life to its playoff hopes thanks to a two-game win streak which head coach Yeng Guiao attributed to his players, particularly, the imports and local stars, finally figuring out how to play alongside each other.
It was an adjustment that the Elasto Painters took time to adapt to, needing an import change and endure a 0-5 start to the conference, before finally discovering the winning formula.
“It's really a process of adjustment, especially coming from Dajuan (Summers). Dajuan was totally playing a different style of game and we had somewhat adapted to Dajuan before, now we have to adapt to him in a short time,” Guiao pointed out.
“Different styles of play, different ways to make them effective in the system that we play but we are getting it now. We know what to expect from Tree and we know what he has to expect from his teammates,” added the fiery mentor.
Treadwell provided the interior defense and rebounding – departments where ROS was somewhat lacking during its first few games.
The burly import, after starting tentatively on the offensive end, is also starting to show his offensive prowess evident in his 23-point, 18-rebound performance in the Elasto Painters’ 113-101 win over the NLEX Road Warriors.
“I'm just taking everything day by day. Coach preached to me that he wants me to be aggressive. I don't think I really was in the first two games. I was a little bit nervous and still trying to feel the team out and everything,” explained Treadwell.
“And I think everybody now knows more how I play so it was a team effort to give me the ball and I just try to capitalize when I get it to score and be efficient,” he added.
Guiao is hoping that his wards can sustain their resurgence to give them a chance of advancing to the playoffs. Aside from Treadwell, young stars like Adrian Nocum, Keith Datu, Gian Mamuyac and Andrei Caracut have been playing well for the Elasto Painters.
“We're hoping that we'll blend even better with Tre and we understand more or less how he can compliment the locals' game and how the locals can compliment his game so we should be getting better,” said Guiao
“It's good for us. We are just trying to keep ourselves in the conference, giving ourselves a chance to make it to the next round,” he added.
