PNP says circulating bomb threat via email is fake, probe on to identify foreign sources
The Philippine National Police (PNP) is now coordinating with its foreign counterparts to run after the sender of a bogus bomb threat sent to some government agencies in the country.
PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said the bomb threat supposedly came from a Japanese lawyer who claimed to have planted “high performance” bombs in some buildings in Metro Manila.
Fajardo said police forces immediately responded to the buildings of government agencies that received the threat and discovered later that the bomb-planting was a hoax.
“We are appealing to the public to be careful of the e-mails that they receive. This e-mail came from a person who identified himself as Takahiro Karasawa, allegedly a lawyer,” said Fajardo.
“The bomb threat is fake. In fact, as early as September and October we are also receiving this kind of threat through our cyber-patrolling,” she added.
During the investigation Fajardo revealed that the e-mail containing the bomb threat was not only sent in the Philippines but also in countries like South Korea, China and even Taiwan.
“Our PNP-ACG (Anti-Cybercrime Group) is now coordinating with its counterparts. The source of the e-mail was already traced and it came outside the Philippines,” said Fajardo.
