Marcos recovers from Covid-19

President Marcos has finally recovered from his third bout with Covid-19 and may soon resume his activities but is advised to keep his face mask on, Malacañang said on Saturday, Dec. 9.

In a Facebook post, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said Marcos has been free from cough, nasal congestion, and fever for over 24 hours.

"President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr is progressing well in his recovery," it wrote.

"All other medical findings were unremarkable. Consequently, the President's final diagnosis is Covid-19, Recovered," it added.

Despite this, Marcos shall finish his isolation on Sunday and is advised to take extra precautions when appearing in public.

"The isolation period concludes on Dec. 10, 2023, with a recommendation for the President to wear a face mask for 10 days during public engagements as a precaution," it added.

According to the PCO, medical professionals closely monitored the President throughout the home isolation period.

Malacañang confirmed that Marcos tested positive for Covid-19 on Dec. 5. He, however, continued to carry out his responsibilities despite the mandatory five-day isolation.

President Marcos signed two pet bills during his quarantine— the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Code of the Philippines and the Internet Transactions Act of 2023, which, he said, "show the country's commitment and readiness to accelerate its development and to embrace the digital economy."

Marcos mentioned these measures in his first State of the Nation Address in July 2022.

A ceremonial signing of the bills was supposed to be held in Malacañang on Tuesday, but his Covid-19 diagnosis prompted him to approve the measure in his residence in Bahay Pangulo.
