BAGUIO CITY – The City Health Services Office reported a 139 percent increase in influenza-like cases here from January to November 18 compared to the same period last year.
CHSO Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) data showed that there were 1,481 cases with no deaths in the past 11 months.
The CESU said 822 cases were females and 659 were males with an age range of zero to 102-years-old and a total of 325 were admitted to medical facilities.
On the other hand, 621 cases with one death were reported in the same period last year.
Data came from government hospital, private laboratories, and private hospitals.
Barangays with highest cases were Camp 7, 102; Loakan Proper, 79; Bakakeng Central, 78; Irisan, 71; Bakakeng Norte, 66; Dontogan, 44; BGH Compound and San Vicente, 32; Asin Road, 29, and San Luis Village, 24.
The CESU said influenza-like illnesses exhibit symptoms similar to fever and cough or sore throat. These may be caused by the flu virus, respiratory syncytial virus, and coronavirus disease.
