Michelle Dee dons a terno ensemble inspired by the bahag

The reigning Miss Universe Philippines continues to champion Filipino culture through fashion

Michelle Dee is more than just a Filipino beauty queen. She is a purveyor of Filipino culture. She showcased that many times during Miss Universe 2023, with her causes and, of course, her outfit choices. The pageant may be over, but her championing of Filipino heritage through style continues. A testament to that is the look she recently wore during her visit to the House of Representatives of the Philippines.

For the event, the beauty queen donned a look crafted by fashion designer Jaggy Glarino. The terno Balintawak dress is a nod to the bahag or loincloth traditionally worn by the Ifugao people. Made of woolen tweed, the garb also features knotting techniques that emulate the alampay and tapis. Completing the look were jewelry pieces courtesy of Jewelmer and a pair of heels from Jojo Bragais.

Recently, Michelle was honored as the newest ambassador of the Philippines’ Department of Tourism. With her new role, it is safe to say that we will be seeing more Filipino culture-inspired fits from the most decorated candidate in Miss Universe history.

“Service has always been my love language and what better way to show that than by serving the country with all love,” Michelle posted.
