ILIGAN CITY – One of the suspects in the bombing of the Mindanao State University in Marawi City last Sunday been arrested.
Police identified the suspect as Jafar Gamo Sultan, alias “Jaf” and “Kurot,” 35. Sultan was a key accomplice of the primary suspect alias “Omar.”

Witnesses tagged Omar as the individual who planted an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the Dimaporo Gymnasium.
Police said two motorcycles allegedly used by Omar and his accomplice were recovered during the operation, adding valuable evidence to the investigation.
Sultan is undergoing custodial debriefing to extract actionable intelligence that could significantly contribute to the ongoing investigation, police added.
He will be turned over to the Philippine National Police (PNP) for the filing of appropriate charges.
Brig. Gen. Yegor Rey P. Barroquillo, commander of the 103rd Infantry Brigade, cited government forces for the arrest of the suspect.
He urged the public to remain vigilant and encouraged them to report any suspicious activities to authorities.
Major Gen. Gabriel C. Viray III, 1st Infantry Division commander, vowed to ensure the community’s safety from the likes of Sultan.
He emphasized that the suspect’s apprehension is a testament to the unwavering dedication and tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies against terrorism.
“We will continue to work diligently to bring all those involved in the MSU-Marawi Campus bombing to justice,” stated Viray.
