Graduating guard Evan Nelle was nothing short of grateful to De La Salle as he kissed the school goodbye with a sweet UAAP championship.
The 24-year-old Nelle capped a memorable three-season stint in the league towing the Green Archers to their 10th title against University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons in their historic best-of-three Finals duel on Wednesday, Dec. 6, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
In 2020, Nelle left San Beda following an unresolved rift between him and the team’s former coach Boyet Fernandez where the Red Lions were denied a four-peat title by rival Letran Knights in the NCAA Season 95.

Shortly after, Nelle found his way to Taft – seeking new experiences and challenges to his flourishing collegiate career.
After serving his residency, the 5-foot-10 guard suited up for La Salle in Season 84, steering the team to a Final Four appearance but falling short of the same feat the following year.
However, last season’s heartbreak was now nothing compared to what came after – a farewell title to end his remarkable journey.
“First year ko champion (with San Beda), di ako gamit. Last year ko, nagagamit ako na champion pa. So, it’s a feeling na parang it’s vindication, with the work I put in. I got to contribute to my team. It feels so good. I don’t have the perfect words for it,” said Nelle.
Nelle ultimately went back-and-forth between being a Lasallian and a Bedan as he was with De La Salle-Zobel from preparatory to grade school before transferring to San Beda in high school and eventually beginning his collegiate career with the Red Lions for two seasons.
With everything now done and dusted, the Season 86 Mythical Five member Nelle had no regrets about his past decisions that led him to a historic run with the Green Archers.
“No regrets (leaving San Beda). This was a perfect setting for me, perfect environment for me. Lalo na my last year, it was really perfect. I met true friends here in La Salle, people I would consider my friends for life, family for life. So, it was the bond I created with my team, everybody around us was something different. My La Salle years were the best years of my life,” said Nelle.
“We’ve been through so much ups and downs. I’ve been through so much ups and downs. I didn’t think it would end like this, to be honest.”
