Smart expands 5G data roaming services

Smart Communications Inc., PLDT’s mobile wireless unit, is continuing to expand its 5G data roaming services in the Philippines and over 80 areas abroad, as it partners with 159 telcos worldwide.

Smart’s 5G roaming services are now accessible to customers residing in areas such as Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and the United States of America among others.

Smart subscribers can get the roaming services via the network’s 5G SIMs and 5G-capable devices.

PLDT and Smart First Vice President and Head of Enterprise and International Business Groups Mitch Locsin said the company is “empowering our customers with fast 5G data roaming speeds that enable them to access their technology tools for work or personal endeavors, when it matters the most.”

Similar perks are also available for tourists to the Philippines who can connect to Smart’s 5G network using their 5G SIMs and devices.

Joshua Montecillo, AVP and Head of Wireless Product Management of Enterprise Business added that the firm is dedicated to enhancing its services for tourists, especially during the Christmas season in the country.

To date, around 97 percent of the population is covered by Smart’s 3G, 4G/LTE, and 5G mobile network. Its connectivity is aided by PLDT’s increasing domestic and international fiber infrastructure.
