A magnitude 5.2 earthquake jolted Surigao del Sur at 12:45 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 7, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located 75 kilometers (km) southeast of Marihatag, Surigao del Sur at a shallow depth of six kilometers.
The tremor was felt at Intensity III (weak) in City of Bislig, Surigao del Sur, Phivolcs said.
Its instruments also recorded Intensity II (slightly felt) in City of Tandag, Surigao del Sur and Intensity I (scarcely perceptible) in City of Bislig, Surigao del Sur; Nabunturan, Davao de Oro; and City of Gingoog, Misamis Oriental.
The earthquake was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
Phivolcs said damages are not expected but warned the public of possible aftershocks.
