LRMC conducts pilot testing of LRT-1 QR, beep lanes

Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), the private operator of Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1), has begun pilot testing special QR and beep lanes to help reduce long queues in its stations.

The new lanes were implemented at select LRT-1 station on Dec. 7, including EDSA, Libertad, Quirino, Monumento, Balintawak, and Fernando Poe Jr.

The lanes can be found upon passengers’ entrance to the station, wherein commuters with QR tickets, Stored Value Cards (SVCs), or beep cards can line up for the security inspection and readily access the station platform.

A separate “regular” line is set up for commuters who have yet to purchase single-journey tickets at the stations’ ticketing booths and kiosks.

Signages were plastered around the station entrances to guide passengers.

LRMC Head of Operations Andrea Madrid said that the company is introducing this initiative “to help accelerate the commute time of passengers as LRMC gears up for the holiday peak travel.”

“Passengers can get in the QR and beepTM lanes to save time and energy, as well as money since beepTM users are enjoying discounted fares compared to using Single Journey Tickets. We can also consider the special lanes as one of the benefits of using QR tickets and beepTM, in line with the company’s thrust of promoting contactless transactions and modernizing our ticketing experience,” added Madrid.

QR tickets for the LRT-1 can be purchased through the LRMC ikotMNL app and the Maya app, while SVCs can be reloaded through the beepTM app or loading kiosks and vending machines at the stations.
