The Las Piñas City government launched A vaccination drive against flu for persons with disabilities (PWDs) on Tuesday, Dec. 5, at the Heritage covered court in BF Resort Village, Barangay Talon Dos.
Las Piñas Mayor Imelda Aguilar said the vaccination drive was organized by the City Health Office (CHO) in collaboration with the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) to affirm the local government’s commitment to inclusive health care.
Aguilar said a total of 600 PWDs received their flu shots during the first day of vaccination.
She said the initiative is part of a broader effort to safeguard vulnerable populations against seasonal influenza especially amidst the ongoing challenges posed by Covid-19.
Dr. Juliana Gonzales, officer-in-charge of the CHO who led the vaccination drive highlighted the importance of PWDs receiving flu shots as they are also vulnerable to complication from the sickness.
Gonzalez said the flu vaccination is also a preventive measure since influenza cases are on the rise.
The CHO and CSWD collaborated to reach out to the PWD community which often faces challenges in accessing healthcare services.
Aguilar said the vaccination drive is part of the city government’s ongoing efforts to promote public health and prevent disease outbreaks.
