Ex-village dad nabbed in buy-bust

CEBU CITY – A former barangay councilor was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Quiot Pardo here on Thursday morning, December 7.

The suspect was identified as Brian Dwight Gaviola, 47.

Leia Alcantara, spokesperson of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Central Visayas, said that Gaviola was allegedly involved in illegal drug activities even when he was a councilor of Barangay Santo Niño here up until the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections last October.

“The information was validated until enough proof for a case build-up was gathered,” said Alcantara.

Five packs of suspected shabu with an estimated market value of P136,000 were recovered from the suspect.

Alcantara said charges for violation of Sections 5 and 11, Article II, of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against the suspect.
