BUTUAN CITY – The Surigao del Sur Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said continuing aftershocks from the magnitude-7.4 earthquake have affected efforts to normalize the situation in the province.
Data received by the PDRRMO from Municipal DRRMOs in the province said 116,217 families or 480,414 individuals in 237 barangays were affected by the earthquake.
The PDRRMO said 20,977 families or 69,771 persons were considered displaced as they are still staying in 115 evacuation centers in the province.
Eight-hundred thirty-four houses were damaged and 1,141 were partially damaged by the earthquake and cost around P10.3 million.
Damage to infrastructure and facilities was placed at P151.3 million, with P110.9 million to roads, bridges, and seawalls.

Meanwhile, a magnitude-4.6 earthquake rocked Surigao del Sur on Thursday morning, December 7, four days after the magnitude-7.4 tremor rocked the province on Saturday, December 2.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded the earthquake at 7:33 a.m. and located its epicenter at 43 kilometers northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, the epicenter of the Saturday earthquake.
The Thursday earthquake had a depth of 21 kms, Phivolcs said.
Phivolcs recorded the earthquake at Intensity II in Hinatuan town and Intensity I in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur.
This tremor is an aftershock of the December 2 earthquake generated by the Philippine Trench.
Phivolcs expects no damage or injuries from Thursday’s earthquake.
The Surigao del Sur PDRRMC reported no damage or injury from the tremor.
