Revilla reminds DPWH to inspect country's infra amid spate of earthquakes

"Nitong nakaraang linggo lang ay niyanig tayo ng mga lindol (We were hit by earthquakes last week), some worse than others. We have to ensure that there is none to little damage to our infrastructure and of course, our people," Revilla said.

The country was struck by a series of high-magnitude earthquakes affecting different areas in Mindanao and Luzon.

Surigao del Sur was hit by a 6.9 magnitude earthquake on Dec. 2. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has recorded up to 2,941 aftershocks following the Surigao del Sur earthquake.

Phivolcs even issued a tsunami warning following the said earthquake and advised the individuals near the coast of Surigao del Sur and Davao Oriental .

Meanwhile, Occidental Mindoro was hit by a 5.9 magnitude earthquake on Dec. 5, with its effects felt up to Metro Manila. This prompte the evacuation of buildings and halting of transport operations.

The solon emphasized the responsibility of the DPWH and its crucial role in assuring the public's safety amid the earthquakes.

"Tuloy-tuloy naman ang pag inspeksiyon ng DPWH, pero heto at sunod-sunod din ang paglindol (DPWH continues its inspections but the earthquakes also continue to persist). We have to be sure that when a strong one hits, we are ready at walang mapipinsala (and nothing will be destroyed)," he ended.
