Remains of executed Pinoys in China to arrive in PH this week — DFA
The remains of two Filipinos executed in China for drug trafficking are expected to arrive in the Philippines within the week.
Ma. Teresita Daza, Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) spokesperson, said Wednesday the Philippine Consulate General in Guangzhou is now working on the repatriation of their remains.
“It hopes to bring their cremains by end of week,” Daza added.
On Nov. 24, two Filipinos were executed in China. This came after they were apprehended by Chinese authorities in Guangdong in 2016 for alleged possession of illegal drugs while en route to another country.
The Philippines tried to appeal their death penalty sentence to life imprisonment to no avail.
The Chinese Embassy in Manila stood by on Beijing’s decision on the execution of the Filipinos as it said serious offenses must be dealt with according to Chinese laws, which equally apply to all nationalities.
