PH Red Cross extends sympathy to victims of the Antique bus accident
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Richard Gordon extended his sincere sympathy to the families of passengers who died and to the injured in the bus accident that occurred on the "killer road" in Barangay Igbucagay, Antique.

In a statement issued Wednesday, Dec. 6, Gordon expressed concern and stressed that road safety must always take precedence.
"It is unfortunate that 17 lives were lost in that road accident, and many others were injured. More than ever, we have to ensure road safety,” Gordon said.
“Drivers, especially those manning public transportation, should exercise discipline on the road. Their mental health, which includes emotional, psychological, and social well-being, must always be in tip-top shape," he added.
The accident occurred on Tuesday, Dec. 5, when the bus was traveling on a path labeled a "killer road," where another bus fell years ago.

PRC Antique Chapter Administrator, Ma. Patricia Florida led a five-person team for the ambulance dispatched to the site of the accident.
According to reports, eight of the bus passengers are currently in critical condition, and four more are recovering in a hospital.
To assist additional victims, the PRC Antique Chapter has reserved 20 additional units of blood in addition to the 19 units it gave to Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital yesterday.
The chapter also supplied a body bag and helped with the search, recovery, and disposition of the deceased.
Furthermore, Gordon mentioned that the organization is always coming up with new ways for the public to utilize its services—emergency response for road emergencies and blood, among others—and is always ready to help in any emergency.
"Let us all work together to make roads safer for all. The PRC's fleet of 178 ambulances across the country stands ready to assist in any emergency situation. Membership with the PRC provides one free ambulance ride and a unit of blood every year," he said.
To date, the PRC has responded to over 2,000 vehicular crashes, more than the 1,297 recorded in 2022 and 1,243 in 2021.
