NLEX Corp. allots P15-B for 2024 expansion projects

NLEX Corporation, the toll road unit of the Metro Pacific Investment Corporation (MPIC), is ramping up its upcoming infrastructure expansion projects with around P15 billion budget for 2024.

NLEX Corporation President J. Luigi Bautista said that the overall capital expenditures worth P15 billion already include its existing and planned expansion projects.

One of these is the construction of the five-kilometer Candaba third viaduct between Pampanga and Bulacan, which is currently 30 percent complete.

The target date for its completion is still on track by November 2024, said Bautista.

Another is the road widening scheme or the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) Segment 3 widening, wherein one line in each direction will be added from San Fernando, Pampanga to the Subic - Clark - Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx).

The widening project is initially estimated to cost P5.5 billion, with the invested proposal already submitted to the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB).

Bautista said that it is “within their corridor,” and “part of the concession.”

“One of the pain points in NLEx is the traffic congestion from San Fernando all the way to SCTEx…By next year, hopefully, within the first quarter, we hope to start construction,” he remarked.

The construction for this is expected to take up to two years.

For this year, the company said it had an overall capital expenditure of around P10 billion, including the Candaba viaduct and the NLEx connector to the Metro Manila Skyway projects.
