Marikina public schools to hold asynchronous classes on Marikina Teachers' Day

Marikina City Mayor Marcelino "Marcy" Teodoro announced on Wednesday, Dec. 6, that all public schools in the city will be conducting asynchronous classes on Thursday, Dec. 7, in celebration of Marikina Teachers' Day.

"Dahil ang araw ng ating pagdaraos sa Disyembre 8 (Biyernes), ay siya ring Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, isang nationwide special non-working holiday, nais ko kayong bigyan ng karagdagang panahon upang ipagdiwang at kilalanin ang inyong natatanging araw (As Marikina Teachers' Day is set to be celebrated on Dec. 8 coinciding with the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary which is a nationwide special non-working holiday, I would like to give additional time to you to celebrate and honor your day)," Teodoro said.

"Matapos ang aking pakikipag-ugnayan sa Department of Education Marikina (DepEd Marikina) upang mas mapahaba ang inyong selebrasyon, ang lahat ng Marikina public schools ay magsasagawa ng asynchronous classes bukas, Disyembre 7 (Huwebes). Ang lahat ng Marikina private schools naman ay maaari ring magsagawa nito, ayon sa pagpapasya ng pamunuan ng paaralan (After coordinating with DepEd Marikina to extend your celebration, all Marikina public schools will be holding asynchronous classes tomorrow, Dec. 7. All Marikina private schools may also conduct asynchronous classes according to the decision of the school management)," he added.

The mayor urged teachers to enjoy the long weekend and use it to rest and bond with their families.

In 2010, the city government passed Ordinance No. 031 series of 2010 entitled, “Ordinance Declaring the Second Friday of the Month of December as Marikina Teacher’s Day.”
