Marcos calls for digitalized services to decongest PH jails
President Marcos has urged the Justice Sector Coordinating Council (JSCC) to pursue the digitalization of its frontline and back-end services in a bid to improve legal proceedings in the country.

In a message delivered by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin during the National Jail Decongestion Summit on Wednesday, Dec. 6, Marcos reiterated that technology and innovative practices are key to swift legal proceedings.
"I urge the JSCC to pursue the streamlining and digitalization of your frontline and back-end services," Marcos said.
"By embracing technology and innovative practices, we can enhance our efficiency, reduce delays, and ensure swift and fair legal proceedings," he added.
The President also called on the Justice sector to use the national summit to actively share their insights, experiences, and best practices.
He also encourged them to learn from the successes and best practices of other countries, where innovative solutions have been implemented to address challenges in the justice system.
This effort, he added, would help in the goal to decongest jails in the country.
Marcos stressed that the summit is in line with his administration's priority to decongest jails and prison facilities, and to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the justice system.
"This gathering is most welcome, as it demonstrates the commitment of the entire government to expedite the processing of criminal cases and alleviate the chronic problem of jail congestion," he said.
He expressed confidence that the discussions in the summit "will pave the way for better policies and initiatives that will address the root causes of our problems."
The Chief Executive also assured the Justice sector that the administration is committed to support collaborative efforts between the Executive and the Judiciary.
"Through our collaborative efforts, we can ensure that justice is not delayed and denied, and that the rights and dignity of every individual are upheld and protected," Marcos said.
The summit aims to bring together legal experts, government agencies, international organizations, and advocates to discuss and establish new policies and initiatives to expedite the processing of criminal cases and alleviate chronic jail congestion in the country.
