UAAP Season 86 Most Valuable Player Kevin Quiambao is planning to take a family vacation in Japan as he reflects on his historic sophomore year with newly-crowned champion De La Salle.
This, as the Green Archers clinched their first title in seven years after hacking out a 73-69 Game 3 victory over the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons on Wednesday, Dec. 6, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The 22-year-old forward complemented his first collegiate championship with a Finals MVP award – finishing as the season’s best until the end of the buzzer with averages of 14.7 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.3 blocks in the series.
“First of all, nagpapasalamat ako kay Lord kumbaga dinelay niya [muna] and then ‘yun nag-trust lang ako sa system ni coach. Then grind lang araw-araw and then ‘yung fit sa nutritionist, sa strength and conditioning. Lahat ng aspects sa game ko in-improve ko lang and focus lang ako kung anong meron. ‘Yung kinalabasan naman championship and Finals and Season MVP,” said Quiambao.
With his brilliant showing in a personal perfect season that just ended, Quiambao is surely an eye candy for overseas professional teams.
For one, Filipino players, both from the collegiate to the pro ranks, have moved to neighboring leagues in the Japan B. League and Korean Basketball League.
Tallying two rare triple-doubles in a single season and only falling short of scoring four double-double performances, Quiambao was the new benchmark in the collegiate scene.
After receiving his Player of the Finals award, Quiambao announced before the delighted Lasallian community about staying for ‘one more year’.
However, the Season 85 Rookie of the Year quickly followed it up by hinting about potential overseas offers, which he then refused to give a detailed account of.
“For now, magbabakasyon kasi ako sa Japan on December 15. Bakasyon lang and hindi ko pa alam,” said Quiambao.
“I think bawal muna sabihin [‘yung about sa mga offers],” he said of his future plans.
