DHSUD activates shelter clusters for Caraga, Davao quake victims
Housing czar Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar has ordered the activation of emergency shelter clusters of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD)
in Caraga and Davao regions to assist the victims of the 7.4 magnitude quake that hit Mindanao over the weekend.
Acuzar said the focus is to make sure that all those whose houses were either totally or partially damaged to be identified and assisted for them to rebuild their homes.
Around 4,000 houses were damaged as a result of the quake, most of the damaged houses were in Caraga region.
Under DHSUD's Rental Subsidy and Financial Assistance Program, families whose houses were totally damaged could receive up to P10,000 in cash assistance.
DHSUD Undersecretary for Disaster Response Randy Escolango said local officials of the department in Caraga and Davao regions were already ordered to convene and discuss assistance package for the victims.
The DHSUD is tasked to lead the Shelter Cluster to assess emergency shelter needs and provide shelter assistance and other relevant support services for disaster-affected areas.
