GUMACA, Quezon – A 65-year-old hearing-impaired man was dragged and killed by a Philippine National Railways (PNR) train while walking on the railroad tracks in Barangay Inaclagan here on Tuesday morning, December 5.
Police identified the victim as Danilo Caperiña, single, and a resident of Barangay Inaclagan.
Investigation said the Bicol-bound PNR train with body No. 2540 operated by Gregorio Sevilla and Arnold Calaguas sounded its horn to warn the victim but kept on walking and was accidentally sideswiped.
Caperiña was dragged by the train for almost 30 meters until it stopped.
The Gumaca Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management (MDRRMO-Kalasag) rescue team took the victim to the hospital where he was declared dead due to serious injuries.
The train crew faces a complaint of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
