BUTUAN CITY – The Police Regional Office-13 reported on Wednesday that the crime rate in the Caraga region went down by 30 percent due to a strengthened and aggressive anti-crime campaign.

PRO-13 Director Police Brig. Gen. Kirby John B. Kraft said index and non-index crimes in Caraga dropped by 25 incidents or 29.76 percent on November 26 to December 2 from 84 in November 19 to 25.
The PRO 13-Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division said that 21 index and 63 non-index crimes were recorded from November 19 to 25 compared to the 12 index and 47 non-index crimes from November 26 to December 2.
Among the recorded index crimes, it said, murder had the highest decrease from four incidents to zero or 100 percent, followed by rape with a decrease of 55.56 percent from nine to four.
Index crimes are serious in nature which include murder, homicide, physical injuries, carnapping, cattle rustling, robbery, theft, and rape.
Non-index crimes include violations of special laws and the Revised Penal Code (RPC) that are not categorized as index crimes. Excluded are reckless imprudence, vehicular incidents, and other quasi-offenses under the provision of RPC.
“The significant decrease in crime incidents is attributed to the strengthened anti-crime drive of PRO-13 and the sustained aggressive and honest law enforcement operations,” Kraft said. “The cooperation of the community and all stakeholders also contributed to this success.”
