Alleged Cebu City pawnshop robbery brains says he is glad to pass this year's Bar
CEBU CITY – A robbery suspect has mixed emotions after passing the Bar examinations in his second attempt.
While Jigger Geverola is happy that he is one of the 3,812 examinees who passed the 2023 Bar examinations, he admitted that he couldn’t fully celebrate due to his current situation.

“Actually, it’s mixed emotions, ambivalent. I am happy that I passed, my hard work paid off but because of the situation, the trials that came my way, it is saddening but at the end of the day, I am still thankful to everyone who prayed and helped me. I know I can overcome all these trials,” Geverola told reporters in Cebuano on Wednesday, December 6.
Geverola is currently detained at the custodial facility of the Cebu City Police Office after he was accused of masterminding the robbery of a pawnshop in downtown Colon St. here on November 25.
Police arrested Geverola in his home in Barangay Gutlang, Argao town, Cebu province on November 28 after two arrested suspects tagged him as the one who instructed them to bring the suspected getaway vehicle to a mountainous barangay in Argao.
Geverola said passing the Bar in his second attempt was not easy.
“It was a product of a long preparation. I enrolled in a review center. I formed a study group and fortunately, two out of five members in the group passed,” said Geverola.
At the time of his arrest, Geverola was working as part of the administrative staff of Cebu Provincial Board Member Raymond Calderon.
Geverola, a former political prisoner, felt like passing the Bar is a reminder of his life mission.
“Based on what happened to me, the purpose of the Lord is to remind me of my promise that if ever I pass the Bar, I would use it to serve the Lord and those who are in need,” he said.
Geverola is hopeful that despite being currently in jail, he will be able to take oath and sign the Roll of Attorneys so he could be a full-fledged lawyer.
He should he be able to practice law, his first clients will be his 41 co-inmates at CCPO. Geverola promised he will offer his services to his current co-inmates for free.
Geverola also had some advice to aspiring lawyers. “It’s about mindset, determination. Study and read a lot.”
