The celebration of the National Day of Romania held last Nov. 29 at the Fairmont Hotel in Makati started on a happy note as H.E. Răduţa Dana Matache, the Ambassador of the Embassy of Romania in the Philippines opened her welcome remarks in Filipino.
“Magandang gabi,” she greeted the guests.
She immediately followed it with, “I do not know the meaning of what I just said!” which elicited laughter from the crowd composed of members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, and friends of the embassy.
It was also a celebration of 51 years of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Romania.
