Singer-songwriter Acel Bisa–Van Ommen has released her latest single, “Kaba, Kilig, Kuryente.” Acel departed from her customary pop-rock sound and instead created a sentimental ballad for this release.
This is her follow-up to the release of her single "My Cure" earlier this year. What made this song different besides its nostalgic sound would be how it was produced. It was the first time she asked her session band to collaborate with her on a song.
“They are session musicians, but I consider them more like a permanent band who plays with me. This is the first time I asked them to work with me, like jamming together to create ‘Kaba, Kilig, Kuryente.’ I stopped doing that since I became a solo artist; that's how we would do it as a band. Everyone has their input. The producer of this song, John Apura, initially guided my instrumentalists to think of riffs, melody, and where the song should be headed,” shared Acel.
In contrast to Acel's previous singles, which used multiple digital elements, she has chosen to pursue a “rawer” sound in this release.
"Kaba, Kilig, Kuryente" is a song that Acel composed several years ago. Initially, she chose not to release it due to its departure from her usual musical style. However, after careful consideration, she decided to give it an opportunity and bring it to the public for its long-awaited debut.

The song was motivated by experiencing "kilig," which refers to having butterflies in one's stomach when in the presence of a crush or someone they are attracted to.
"Despite being in my forties, I have acquaintances spanning multiple generations. Some are single, while others are married. Then it got me wondering, and we discussed whether you still feel 'kilig' after getting married or as you age. I tried to remember how 'kilig' I used to get when I was in love or thought I was in love," she said.
While the sensation of 'kilig' is understandable and legitimate when one has feelings for someone, Acel believes the song is a caution that it does not necessarily equate to true love.
The act of someone you are fond of opening the door for you or offering you their seat does not necessarily imply that they have the same affection towards you. "Kaba, Kilig, Kuryente" serves as a reminder to avoid making excessive assumptions or overly relying on one's emotions.
Acel revealed that she has already shot a music video for her song "Kaba, Kilig, Kuryente" which she will release soon. In addition to the music video release, Acel will have a packed schedule with various live performances and appearances at corporate events. Additionally, she plans to release an album by the following year, which greatly excites her.
“As a solo artist, I believe I have more freedom to accomplish whatever I want or imagine as a songwriter. Unlike in a band, everyone has their own interpretation of a song or what to do in an album that we’re creating. They're both good, but they're not the same. As a solo artist, my current challenge is to stretch my imagination and serve as the guide on everything I do in my career.”

“Kaba, Kilig, Kuryente” is distributed by Sony Music Philippines and is out now on all major streaming platforms.
Acel has been involved in the music industry for about two decades. She served as the lead singer for the bands Orphan Lily (1995 – 1998) and Moonstar88 (1999 – 2004), during which she was recognized for her vocal performances and co-production of songs such as "Torete," "Sulat," and "Fall on Me," among others. She commenced her solo career in 2004 and debuted her first album, Silver Lining, as a solo artist in 2008.
In 2012, she launched Hello to Heaven, a compact album with six tracks. Acel is also a published author, having written Who Would Have Thought? Finding Identity, Love, and Purpose in Unexpected Moments in 2015. The book includes eight original songs that may be downloaded. Sony Music Philippines is currently responsible for distributing Acel's music.
