After a seven-year absence, the 20th edition of the APT Cup returned with a merry mix of competitive stroke and friendly play last Wednesday, Nov. 29, at the fairways and greens of The Orchard Golf and Country Club in Cavite.

Staged under a perfect golfing weather, at least 158 players strut their stuff that fostered fun competition and camaraderie highlighted by the tourney’s theme “Pasasalamat, Bonding, Remembering the Past, Revival and Fun.”
Held annually along the world class layouts of the country club, participants donned various costumes such as Gilas Pilipinas Jerseys, Mulawin, Voltes V, Star Trek, Marvel and DC Superhero, medical scrub get ups, while wielding their golf clubs like magic wands.
Former Transportation Secretary Art Tugade, the tourney’s major sponsor, in the post matches stressed the importance of friendship, remembering and gratefulness of the annual event.
“Nandirito ang lahat ng aking mga kaibigan—nagsama-sama kami more than 30 years ago. Sila ang nagbigay ng lakas, tiwala at kooperasyon sa akin,” said Tugade. “Hindi ko po narating ang aking narating kung wala kayo.”
Tugade’s former fellow Cabinet members during President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s term such as Executive Secretary Medialdea, Senator and former Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, Chairman and Resident Representative-designate of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) and former Labor Secretary Bebot Bello graced the tournament.
Also in tow were United Asia Automotive Group, Inc. President and Foton Owner Rommel Sytin, former Potato Corner CEO Jose Magsaysay (JoMag), celebrities Randy Santiago and John Estrada, Tugade’s classmates and friends at San Beda College, former Department of Transportation (DOTr) officials, Tugade’s mistahs at PMA Class 2000, doctors, and personal friends who helped him in the last 30 years to organize APT Cup.
The 30th APT Cup was filled with a plethora of surprises with Sytin giving out two Jetour Ice Cream Electric Vehicles and Magsaysay handing out five food franchises to raffle winners.
Solicited donations from the players topped P120,000, which was given to caddies who assisted the players. The tourney was also played without caddie fee.
